Go to Amgen Eisteddfod then to the “Virtual Ty Gwerin” on Friday 7th August 2020
The last thing Gregg Lynn did before the lockdown!
Gregg with Jim Parc Nest! Jim Parc Nest won the bardic chair at the Eisteddfod in Llanrwst in 2019 for his long form poem “Gorwelion.” It was a poem about Iolo Morganwg — ‘Wil Tabwr’ was Jim’s bardic name.
On Wednesday 11.3.20, Gregg travelled to Llancarfan near Barry in South Wales and to Bryn Iolo, the cottage where Iolo Morgannwg was born. The occasion was “Iolo Morganwg Day” and a blue plaque was placed on the wall of the cottage. Gregg sang a few of Iolo Morganwg’s songs and Jim read his poem “Gorwelion.”
An S4C Crew were there to film the event for “Heno”. After the unveiling of the plaque , everyone went to the village pub “The Fox and Hounds; and Gregg sang a small set, of songs that have connections to Iolo Morgannwg. Jim and his wife Manon Rhys were there to join in with the songs.

7/7/2018-NÔL A MLÂN FESTIVAL LLANGRANNOG
You’d be forgiven for thinking that you’d walked into a scooby doo episode as a mysterious Sea Mist descended on Llangrannog just before Yr Hwntws took to the stage. It must have been the sea gods making sure that everyone stayed put for what turned out to be an excellent set! Musicianship and poetry combining for what was a brilliant afternoon. Llangrannog was absolutely packed on what was one of the hottest weekends of the year so far. The beer was flowing as Yr Hwntws delivered belter after belter. Gregg on top form with his Triban memorising. (He has got over 30 of them to remember!) The refrain that the ox drivers of South East Wales used to sing to the Oxen……MAHO! Onwards!
1/7/2018 – TAFWYL GIG
Yr Hwntws played their first gig of the summer, within the grand confines of Cardiff Castle. Headlining the ‘Cwpwrdd Nansi’ folk afternoon. They were preceded by an excellent performance from ‘Alaw’, in fine fettle, and it was then the Hwntws turn to bring their unique Tribannic form to the people of Cardiff for the first time. It was a wonderful gig, on a very hot afternoon. Onwards!
25/6/2018- TOILING ON TRIBANS
Gregg has been hard at work researching old Welsh manuscripts and songbooks to collect examples of the unique “Triban Morgannwg” poetic form. There has also been hard work going on to assemble a new collection of traditional songs and tunes.
The old poets and singers used the tribans as a means of conveying stories about ordinary people — they are funny, sad, irreverent and punchy. The musicians infused the poetry with symphonies (short refrains of varying lengths) between the lines which were sung. Yr Hwntws continue to develop the tribans in this way – highlighting the musical and lyrical with as much punch as ever.
The band has researched enough material, and will have a new CD collection and accompanying booklet ready in the next few months!
27.10.17 – Yr Hwntws are playing Abergavenny Labour Club on Friday 27th October. Menter yr Iaith are presenting an evening to celebrate the legacy of last year’s Abergavenny Eisteddfod and the Welshness of the town. A lantern procession through the town at 5.00 pm will end at the Labour Club at 6.00 pm where there will be a Ceilidh with caller Tudur Phillips, some songs for children from Gregg Lynn and a break for food before Yr Hwntws come on stage. The evening will be filmed for S4C’s Heno.
4.11.17- A night of Tribannau. The Ceredigion Society have invited Gregg Lynn to present a special night on ‘Tribannau Morgannwg’. Some of the Hwntws will be joining Gregg on the 4th of November in the Emlyn Cafe, Blaenporth at 7PM.
